Yotvata Dairy was founded in 1962.
With the help of Moshe Hess from kibbutz Hulda, the economic consultant
from the kibbutz movement to Yotvata , who brought the idea of establishing
a dairy, which would process the milk produced by the kibbutz dairy herd
and supply the needs of Eilat, the only city in the area.
Together with Ori Horazo, a kibbutz member and a man of vision and persuasive
abilities this vision became a reality. In the early years the dairy processed
500-800 thousand liters of milk per year.
In those years the production line was limited to milk, leben, eshel,
and sour cream. The entire factory was run by 4 members, giving it a family
atmosphere.
One of the main concerns was to produce high quality products.
This tradition is one that has carried on through the years as the dairy
has grown. Beginning in 1979 Yotvata Dairy expanded it's market north
of Beer Sheva and today can be found all over the country. The variety
of products grew to include chocolate milk, flavored puddings, yogurt
with fruit, and white cheeses ranging from cream cheese to low fat.
During these years Kibbutz Yotvata was the sole proprietor of the dairy.
It has opened up information resources on the national and international levels, with Strauss and Danone.
Milk, our principle raw material. Is still supplied by our own dairy herd and the kibbutzim in the area allowing for close controls on freshness and quality.
